Who
are we?
We are a collective group of players from all walks of life, some having not played football for many, many years, some from the local NFL competition and some from different leagues.
We play every fortnight in a league called the AFL masters Football League. Our club has been established for over 21 years although not always under the name Plenty Valley. Over the past 21 years we have progressed through the different divisions and have been in division 1 for some 14 years now.
We play/train out of War Memorial oval Greensborough during the season proper with Pre season beginning the first Wednesday in February and carried out every Wednesday at Eltham Lower Park, cnr of Fitzsimmons and Main roads Eltham.
We cater for all standards of footballers at Plenty, so if it’s been a few years since you have pulled on the boots or have just finished playing there will be a team that suites your ability or fitness.
We have 2 teams at Plenty Valley
- Superules team (Div 1, in which we have played in the last 3 out 4 finals)
- Master team, ( our seconds team )
What is Superules?
Superules is football for guys over the age of 35. There are 3 age groups that can be played in.
- Supers- over 35’s played for points, 9 games per year, 1 x semi final, 1 x grand final. We have 3 divisions of supers – Plenty Valley is in first division.
- Masters- over 35s NOT played for points, percentage is added up at the end of the year and a play off between 1st and 2nd happens on grand final day.
- Over 47’s- this is a new concept to allow the older guys to compete with people around there age and is growing by the year. Played for fun NOT points as well.
All games are played once a fortnight on a Sunday afternoon, we have 4 x 20 minute quarters with NO time on, 5 minute break at quarter and three quarter time and 10 minutes at half time. Training is every Wednesday from 6.00pm on and after training food and drinks are available.
Why play superules?
Superules is a fantastic way for older football lovers to stay in the game without competing against younger and more aggressive players, keep fit, play against opponents in the same age bracket and most of all network through a system that has over 1400 players metro wide creating new relationships and friendships with past players and past opponents from other teams who now enjoy playing with you.
Superules is a family system that encourages wives and children to support and participate in aspects of the club and on the ground. It has been designed to be as non invasive as possible so that family life can be attended to as normal yet allowing dads and husbands to enjoy a life long love whilst staying fit and healthy.
As we move forward in life, work and family life stresses can take there toll and it becomes more important to look after health and fitness so we can deal with the stresses of life, this is achieved in a team environment where people of all walks of life come together with fitness in mind, exchange ideas, network business opportunities and support each other with solutions and information.
Rules that are unique to superules:
- No knees up in ruck contests, marking or spoiling. Free kicks apply
- Only 1 up from each team in any ruck contest. Free kicks apply
- Drop kick goal from outside 10 metre square will yield 9 points.
All other rules are as per AFL football, we also have the card system for indiscretions. The superules system will not tolerate rough conduct and verbal abuse and with the 2 umpires in controlled it is policed effectively.
These rule changes are all in the best interest of player safety in superules.
The Superules Carnival.
At the completion of each year a carnival is played against all other states of Australia in places such as Cairns, Darwin, Perth, Hobart, Canberra etc. This a wonderful opportunity to play for your state against the best players from other states and all divisions are played to a grand final. Over 35s, 40s, 45s, 50s and 55s, a division to cater for all ages. Most of the players combine these trips in to a family holiday and I can speak from experience, the kids get involved and have a ball with the playing of the games and the associating with other players kids.
Sponsoring Superules:
Superules provides business opportunities to players and supporters by creating a common interest for groups of people and bringing them together which then allows for those people to network offering there services or by way of club sponsorship which then exposes their brand to not only our members but the members of the senior body and players from other clubs around Melbourne.
Sponsorship and contacts can also be arranged with the governing body
